Ferrari President John Elkann had a meeting with Scuderia Ferrari boss Frédéric Vasseur before the Hungarian Grand Prix to address the team’s development strategy for the rest of the season. This meeting comes at a time when Ferrari struggles to keep pace with the leading teams, facing persistent car performance issues.
In recent months, Ferrari has visibly lagged in the competitive front, and car improvements introduced in Barcelona have brought back bouncing issues. At Silverstone, the team experimented with different car setups for its drivers to tackle the problem. Despite these efforts, Ferrari’s performance in variable weather conditions in Canada, as well as in Spain, Austria, and Silverstone, showed no significant progress. The new floor introduced in Spain led to aerodynamic instability, which will now be replaced in Hungary.
Adding to the team’s challenges, technical director Enrico Cardile departed recently, leaving a critical vacancy in Ferrari’s technical department. Vasseur has yet to announce a permanent restructuring plan for the department in Maranello. Loïc Serra is rumored to be a potential replacement for Cardile, but it remains unconfirmed whether he will take on Cardile’s full responsibilities, leaving this decision pending.
Elkann, speaking to the Italian media, emphasized his support for Vasseur in fast-tracking the necessary changes within the team, dismissing rumors of his doubts about Vasseur’s leadership. He expressed confidence that Ferrari can return to the front this season and be competitive for victories in 2025 and 2026.
