The former F1 team owner has been battling prostate cancer for the past year

The motorsport world is mourning the loss of Eddie Jordan, the charismatic former Formula One team owner and principal, who has passed away at the age of 76. The Irishman, known for his bold personality and sharp racing acumen, played a crucial role in shaping the careers of several F1 legends.

Jordan’s journey in motorsport began with British Formula 3, where his driver Martin Brundle battled Ayrton Senna in an iconic championship fight.

In 1991, he entered Formula One with Jordan Grand Prix, a team that quickly gained a reputation for punching above its weight. He was also the man who gave Michael Schumacher his F1 debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, where the German stunned the paddock by qualifying P7 before being swiftly poached by Benetton.

Throughout the mid-to-late 90s, Jordan’s team was a true contender, frequently challenging McLaren, Ferrari, and Williams. Their final Grand Prix victory came in 2003, before the team was eventually sold in 2005 and underwent multiple transformations—first as MF1, then Spyker F1, Force India, and now Aston Martin.

Jordan recently opened up about his battle with cancer, using his Formula for Success podcast to encourage others to get regular health check-ups, emphasizing the progress in modern treatments.

His legacy in Formula One extends far beyond his team’s achievements—he was a beloved figure in the paddock, a keen talent spotter, and an outspoken and entertaining presence in the sport.
