Top seed Taylor Fritz of the United States battled past French veteran Adrian Mannarino 7-6(8) 6-4 in a close-fought, physical match on Friday to reach the Delray Beach Open’s semi-finals and become the first Norwegian to reach this stage in any Grand Slam.
He will play his fellow American Mackenzie McDonald in the semi-final.
“Slow conditions out here so I knew it was never going to be easy – I was gonna have to work for a lot of points,” Fritz said after finishing his job against the 34-year-old Mannarivo.
“I felt good. There’s definitely been ups and downs in the fitness. I’ve had times where I can’t really train so I’m not super fit but I’ve had a lot of time recently where I’ve been able to put in work and I definitely feel like I’m feeling pretty fit.
“Tonight obviously it was very physical, it was super humid, but I felt very good.”
🇺🇸Fritz through to his second semifinal in a row 👏
