Daniel Ricciardo is making his F1 return this weekend at the Hungarian Grand Prix with Alpha Tauri.
According to Christian Horner, the Aussie is taking that step as a platform to stimulate his full return to Red Bull.
The ideal scenario for Ricciardo is to race for Red Bull in 2025, as Sergio Perez’ contract expires in 2024.
“Daniel firmly wants to be pitching for that 2025 Red Bull,” said Horner.
“That’s his golden objective, and by going to Alpha Tauri he sees that as his best route of stating his case.”
Red Bull have been in a league of their own this year, winning all 10 races, with Verstappen bagging 8 and Perez 2.
However, the Mexican has struggled lately, failing to reach the top 10 in the past five races, while Verstappen has been sublime.
All that has led to speculation that Perez’ future might not be so certain as it seems, despite team boss Horner confirming he will be driving for them in 2024.
