Tyson Fury has hit out at Oleksandr Usyk for “running away” from their undisputed heavyweight title match. The two looked set to meet in the first bout to unify the four heavyweight belts, but talks broke down amid a dispute over finances for a potential rematch, leaving both men to move on.
Usyk, 36, signed with Saudi-based Skill Challenge Entertainment amid rumors of a fight with Fury, 34, at the end of the year. So the Gypsy King accused his rival of only thinking about money.
“I would love to fight Usyk for the undisputed title. But right now Usyk is running like a cheat, running so fast that he can’t get away from me fast enough. The only reason this fight won’t happen is because Usyk wants more money.”
“Usyk is waiting for the big money, £100m, which he will get from the Saudis for a fight in November or whenever it happens. So I can’t blame him. I know he’s a family man and he’s got throats to feed so I wish him luck, it’s not personal, it’s a sport for one and a business for two. But when we finally meet, I will destroy him, that’s a fact.”
