The undisputed heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk set to take place at Wembley on 29 April has been called off, according to Egis Klimas, Usyk’s manager.
In Klimas’ eyes full blame should lay on Fury due to the impossible demands he put on.
‘No matter how much Usyk compromised, he was pushed for more,’ Klimas said, as reported first by Steve Kim.
Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, said that he is keen the fight takes place as scheduled and is hopeful that the deal is resurrected within the next 24 hours.
The Ukranian’s manager, however, has given his ultimatum that if the match does not take place, then Usyk would be entirely entitled to defend his WBA crown against Daniel Dubois.
The initial agreement had been a 70/30 split in Fury’s favour, but according to ESPN, the sides were unable to reach an agreement in other material terms.
Usyk is the current holder of the WBA, WBO and IBF titles having defended them against Anthony Joshua. Fury is the WBC champion, but if no resolution could be found in the upcoming days then WBA will order Usyk to defend his title against Daniel Dubois.
