Florida fired the manager after the disappointing start.

Florida Gators decided to sack boss Billy Napier at the end of the weekend, 24 hours after an error-filled victory vs. Mississippi State that featured more head-scratching calls and offensive lulls like those that marked much of his 4 years as head coach of the school.

Athletic director Scott Stricklin made the decision to fire the manager despite the 23-21 win that improved Florida’s record to 3-4, but the Gators were very close to losing that match too before DT Michai Boireau picked off a pass in the last seconds of the game as Mississippi State was getting very close to getting on FG range and beat Florida.

The Gators must pay Napier almost 21 million dollars, with half of that money to be paid to him within a month. The rest of the head coach will receive in the next 3 years as Florida still pays their ex-boss, Dan Mullen.

Billy finishes his career as head coach of the school with a negative record – 22-23 in 4 campaigns, featuring 12-16 in SEC play. Napier was 5-17 vs. ranked schools, including 0-14 in their visits. Fans wanted from him to give up his playcalling role, but he decided against that and costed him his job.
