Kaiser Franz’s condition has deteriorated significantly in recent months, which according to Mathews, is the reason why he will not be able to attend the reunion of the 1990 World Cup champion generation.
“Franz Beckenbauer is not in the best of health. He’s always said that health is the most important thing in life, and now he’s gone… Of course I wish him back, to have the energy he’s known for again. Unfortunately, that is not the case at the moment and that is why he was unable to come to our last meeting,”, Matheus said.
Beckenbauer has not appeared in public for some time, and the media previously reported that his health had deteriorated significantly. He made his last statement following the death of his good friend, Brazilian football legend Pele.
“I would like to go to Brazil and send him off as he deserves, but my health does not allow such a long flight,” said Beckenbauer at the time.
