Giannis Antetokounmpo gave composed response to comments made by Alperen Sengun during this year’s EuroBasket tournament.
Sengun was the driving force behind Turkey’s 94-68 semifinal demolition of Greece last week, and afterward the Houston Rockets star offered both praise and criticism of the two-time NBA MVP. He acknowledged Antetokounmpo as one of the best players in the world, but downplayed his playmaking ability, suggesting Greece’s struggles stemmed from Giannis’ struggles as a passer.
Antetokounmpo finished that game with 12 points and 5 assists before leading Greece to a third-place finish by edging Finland 92-89 on Sunday. Asked about Sengun’s remarks after the bronze-medal game, Giannis kept his calm, but didn’t shy away from a response.

“I’m a guy that doesn’t like to talk a lot, you know, I let my game talk,” Antetokounmpo said. “I’m going into my 13th season in the NBA. I’ve won everything. Everything. … I’m not the guy that will talk back to coaches, or players, or people that say bad things about me. It doesn’t really matter. Because at the end of the day, you won’t remember what they say. You will remember how I respond. Go see my clips on YouTube, and then come back and ask me if I’m a good passer or not.”
Sengun, meanwhile, cemented his own reputation as one of Europe’s brightest stars. The NBA All-Star led Turkey to the championship game, where they fell just short against Germany in a dramatic final.
