The Catalans lost 2-1 lead to end 2-4 and officially put an end of the title race

Real Madrid clinched their 36th La Liga title after Girona staged a remarkable comeback to stun Barcelona 4-2. The result sealed Los Blancos’ championship triumph as their closest rivals faltered in their quest to keep the title race alive.

Girona’s sensational second-half surge, spearheaded by Portu, propelled them to victory over Barcelona and secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Portu, introduced as a substitute with his team trailing 2-1, made an instant impact by equalizing with his first touch, courtesy of an unselfish assist from Artem Dovbyk. Moments later, Portu turned provider, setting up Miguel Guiterrez for Girona’s go-ahead goal with a deftly squared pass. Then, in a moment of brilliance, Portu unleashed a thunderous volley from the edge of the area to seal his side’s triumph.

Despite Barcelona’s efforts, highlighted by goals from Andreas Christensen and Robert Lewandowski’s penalty, they succumbed to Girona’s relentless onslaught. The defeat saw Barcelona slip behind Girona in the standings, further solidifying Real Madrid’s title triumph with a commanding 13-point lead at the summit.

With just four games remaining, Girona’s triumph puts them a point clear of Barcelona and cements Real Madrid’s status as the undisputed champions of La Liga.
