Grigor Dimitrov’s difficult 2025 season has taken another blow, as the Bulgarian has officially withdrawn from the Shanghai Masters while continuing to recover from the pectoral muscle injury he picked up at Wimbledon.
The world No. 28, who recently parted ways with coach Jamie Delgado, has not played since his dramatic fourth-round clash on Centre Court against Jannik Sinner. Dimitrov led the world No. 1 by two sets and looked on the verge of one of his biggest wins ever before collapsing with a serious chest injury. He retired in tears, marking one of the most heartbreaking moments of his career.
A sight we never want to see.

Although initial reports suggested a quicker recovery, Dimitrov has been forced to miss the entire hardcourt swing, including the US Open. That ended his streak of 58 consecutive Grand Slam main-draw appearances, dating back to 2010.
Grigor Dimitrov’s girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez, shared a video of him 2 days after suffering that awful injury at Wimbledon.
“2 days after injury. Nothing stops him. Hardest worker I know. The most disciplined.”

He had hoped to return in Shanghai, where he has enjoyed success in the past, reaching the semi-finals two years ago after defeating Carlos Alcaraz before losing to Andrey Rublev.
