The Memphis Grizzlies are trading one of the team’s best players, Jaren Jackson Jr., to the Utah Jazz as part of a 7-player exchange.
Memphis will get Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang, and 3 1st-round selections at the draft.
Utah also acquired Jock Landale and Vince Williams Jr. in the trade, which was completed 48 hours before the deadline.
Jaren, who is 26 years old, is a 2-time All-Star and was the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2022-23. The former Grizzlies star has 3 seasons remaining on a 5-year, 205 million dollar contract that also features a player option for the 2029-30 campaign.
He will join the rebuilding Utah team that has 3rd-year guard Keyonte George, rookie Ace Bailey, and 4th-year center Walker Kessler, who will not play again in the current campaign because of a shoulder problem.
Utah leader Lauri Markannen, the league’s 8th-leading scorer in the current season, has been widely speculated to be traded, but now he can remain with the Jazz and try to build chemistry with Jaren as a formidable frontcourt duo on the team.
