The seven-time world champion won his first qualifying since December 2021

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes won his 104th Formula 1 qualification and first pole position from Abu Dhabi in 2021. Hamilton beat world champion Max Verstappen by three thousandths of a second and will start first in Sunday’s Hungary Grand Prix.

“I’m very excited, it’s been a crazy year and a half for us, but now we’re first again, I was speechless in the car after my last lap, I’m grateful to the team, everyone worked great and I feel like I’ve won my first pole position,” Lewis Hamilton shared after the session.

“I did not expect that we will fight for the pole position, but I couldn’t have been faster on my last lap, I gave everything I was capable of to win. The difficult period for us is not over, but nobody in the team lost faith, we worked hard to steer the development of the car in the right direction.”
