The Gunners almost secured their spot in the semifinals.

Arsenal needed an extra time goal to defeat Sporting Lisbon 1-0 in the 1st leg of the ¼ finals of the Champions League, and now the Gunners are huge favorites to reach the ½ finals of the tournament as the 2nd leg will be in London.

The home side were close to opening the score in the 7th minute, but Maximiliano Araujo’s shot hit the crossbar.

The 1st huge chance for Arsenal to score came in the 16th minute when Noni Madueke struck the crossbar, and the match remained without goals.

In the 63rd minute, the Gunners scored as Martin Zubimendi did it, but his goal was later disallowed for an offside.

Sporting had a great chance in the 83rd minute, but Geny Catamo’s header was saved by David Raya.

The only goal in the game came in the extra time when Gabriel Martinelli found Kai Havertz, and the German scored into the bottom left corner to secure an advantage for his team before the 2nd leg at the Emirates next week.
