The guard s declining his 37.3 million dollar player option for the next season to ink a long-term contract that will keep him in the team until 2028.
Jrue’s extension saves Boston a few million dollars on the cap for the next campaign and helps to keep the current roster of Tatum, Brown, Porzingis, White, and Holiday that he led the team to the league’s best record in the current campaign. With the guards’ extension, Boston is destined to operate as a 2nd apron franchise next season, restricting their free agency and trade opportunities.
Jrue will become the 4th basketballer to ink a guaranteed contract worth over 100 million dollars at 33 or older – a list that also features LeBron, Steph, and Horford.
Holiday’s crucial role in the defense for the Celtics is what motivated the franchise to give this multi-million dollar extension to the veteran.
