Christian Horner has pointed out the areas where Sergio Perez needs to improve next season in order to keep his seat beyond 2024.
Perez started 2023 strongly, winning two out of the first four races and trailing teammate Max Verstappen by only 6 points.
However, since then it has been a downhill for the Mexican, who could not provide any sort of challenge to Verstappen.
Horner believes Perez’ main issue stems from his poor qualifying form.
A run of five consecutive Q3 misses between Monaco to Great Britain severely hampered his chances and gave his teammate a relatively easy way to a third consecutive trophy.
“His race pace is there, his race craft is fantastic, he’s probably overtaken more cars than anybody this year, but we just need him to be starting in the first four rather than ninth or 10th, whatever his average has been over the last few races.” Horner said.
“He knows it’s a big year for him and he’ll take a bit of time this winter to reflect on where he needs to improve and I’m sure he’ll come back fighting next year.”
