Charlotte Hornets have waived veteran player Spencer Dinwiddie, the organization revealed today.
Spencer inked a 1-year, 3.6 million dollar contract with Charlotte at the beginning of July. Still, the Hornets must release a guaranteed salary ahead of next week’s regular-campaign opener and decided to waive him.
He played in only 2 preseason matches as he averaged almost 15 points and over 6 assists in 30 matches as a starter for the Mavs in the past campaign. Dinwiddie averaged 11 points, almost 4.5 assists, and almost 3 boards in 27 minutes overall in 79 games for Dallas in the past season,
Spencer is entering his 12th NBA campaign. He played a crucial role as the 6th man on the Mavericks’ 2022 West Conference finals roster, as he landed in Dallas as part of the exchange for Kristaps Porzingis, who was traded to the Nets a year later in another deal for Irving.
In his career in the NBA, Spencer was also part of the Pistons, Wizards, and Lakers, as he has 621 matches to his name in the league.
The Hornets recently waived G Spencer Dinwiddie. With Malcolm Brogdon formerly expected to play a key backup G role, but retiring, should the Knicks pursue Dinwiddie??
