The Houston team had to dig deep to avoid catastrophe

The Houston Astros edged out Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in a tightly-contested game to avoid a third straight loss on Sunday.

Jake Meyers shined with his home run, while Martin Maldonado notched an RBI double to help his team en route to victory. It was a vital moment in the game as the Astros went 2-1 at that point.

Meyers heroics made it 3-1 for Houston, who went on to clinch the match from then onward.

Kody Clemens had a home run for Phillies, while J.T. Realmuto also followed suit.

With this victory Astros put an end to a poor run of form, which saw them lose twice to Philadelphia with a total score of 9-2.

“It was, it was huge, especially against the team that we faced in the World Series,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said.

“You’ve got to win these games when you’re struggling and it was big for us to salvage a win.”
