Zlatan Ibrahimovic has received a call from the Swedish national team, stating that they want him for the upcoming European qualifiers.
Ibrahimovic, 41, retired from national football back in 2016, but returned in 2021 for the World Cup qualifiers, which turned out to be unsuccessful for the Swedish team.
Ibrahimovich hasn’t been able to play much football this season due to knee injury. He has made 3 appearances overall for AC Milan this season, all of which have been from the bench.
When asked about it, Sweden head coach Janne Andersson says he doesn’t see Ibrahimovich as a regular starter, but rather a supportive role, which will give the youngsters in the squad a morale boost.
Ibrahimovic is Sweden’s all-time goal-scorer with 62 goals in 121 appearances. His last cap for the national team was a play-off loss against Poland back in 2022.
Sweden face Belgium and Azerbaijan in their oppening games in group F later this month.
