India’s Rohan Bopanna became the oldest tennis player to win an ATP Masters title after he and Australia’s Matthew Ebden triumphed in the Indian Wells men’s doubles final over top-ranked Dutch pair Wesley Kohlhof and Britain’s Neil Skupsky 6-3, 2 :6, 10:8.
At 43, Bopanna became the oldest Masters champion, surpassing Canadian Daniel Nestor, who won the Cincinnati Masters in 2015 at the age of 42.
Bopanna attributes his longevity in tennis to coffee from his family’s plantation in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, which he says he consumes daily.
“It’s an Indian coffee that I drink all the time when I travel. That’s the secret. The most important thing is to be able to recover after matches and coffee really helps me with that,” Bopanna said.
