Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will most probably not be part of the Champions League winners’ squad at the Club World Cup because of injury.
Standard protocol would be for the Belgian international to undergo tests on an injury today and tomorrow, with the Spanish giants due to fly out to Morocco.
Courtois, capped 100 times by his country, picked up an injury during the warm-up ahead of Sunday’s game against Mallorca.
The Belgian joined Real in 2018 and won two La Liga titles, the Club World Cup as well as the Champions League.
FIFA Club World Cup takes place in Rabat and Tangier, Morocco, from 1 February to 11 February, and will crown a world club champion after a tournament featuring each continent’s top club.
As traditional powerhouses of the sport, South America and Europe’s champions will be the last teams to join the competition, with Brazil’s Flamengo and Real Madrid entering at the semi-finals.
