Toronto FC emerged victorious 2-1 against D.C. United at BMO Field on Saturday night.
The star of the show was ex-Napoli player Roberto Insigne, who assisted both of Toronto’s goals, who had previously failed to score in over 400 minutes.
Deandre Kerr opened the scoring from a corner kick, before Kosi Thompson doubled their lead.
There was some hope of D.C. comeback as Christian Benteke pulled one back in the 87th minute, but the visitors were unable to find a second goal.
It was a vital win for Toronto as they have struggled so far this season, finding themselves in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference table. They were also eliminated from the Canadian Championship by CF Montreal earlier this month.
“Always feels good when you can get a win at home. We haven’t had that feeling in a long time, so I hope all the guys really cherish this moment,” said Mark -Anthony Kaye.
