After playing in the Champions League final four months ago, Inter started the new campaign in the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad.
Inter conceded an early goal after just four minutes of play. Bastoni made a huge mistake in possession, making it easy for Brais Mendez to take the ball and slot it past Sommer for 1-0. VAR checked the goal, but confirmed that everything the play is ok.
Right before the half-time interval the home side was close to doubling their lead, but Mendez and Oyarzabal were stopped by Sommer.
At the 65 minute the Italian side was shocked when the referee showed Nicolo Barella straight red card, but VAR was used once again and the referees signaled that this is a wrong decision, so the call was overruled.
In the 79 minute Marcus Thuram managed to level the scoring, but again VAR was used and the technology showed that there was an offside in the play.
Inter kept on pushing and finally got their goal. Frattesi played a simple pass to Lautaro Martinez and the captain saved his team’s point.
