Manchester City began their Champions League campaign with a frustrating 0-0 draw against Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium. In a rematch of the 2023 final, which City won, the Italian side displayed impressive defensive organization and an attacking threat, making it difficult for Pep Guardiola’s team to find their rhythm.

Despite being one goal away from his 100th for the club, Erling Haaland was kept quiet by Inter’s disciplined defense.
Phil Foden, who replaced De Bruyne, had a decent chance, but Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer made key saves, including one from Josko Gvardiol. On the other end, Inter wasted several promising opportunities, with Matteo Darmian attempting a backheel instead of shooting and Henrikh Mkhitaryan missing from close range.
City nearly snatched a late winner, but Ilkay Gündoğan’s header was straight at Sommer, and his follow-up effort went over the bar.
