Houston Dynamo emerged triumphant against Inter Miami in a hard-fought match 2-1 in the US Open Cup final on Wednesday night.
The headlines from the match were present before it even started as superstar Lionel Messi sat out the game with the injury he sustained last week against FC Toronto. The Argentinian was unable to recover and had to watch from the stands.

Houston was overall the better team and they deservedly found themselves 2-0 up with strikes from Griffin Dorsey and Amine Bassi from the penalty spot.
They were able to control the pace of the game and gave Miami little to no chance. A mere consolation goal from Josef Martinez in stoppage time did temporarily lift the spirits up, but it was all too little too late.

It is Dynamo’s second US Open Cup in 5 years as they celebrated the victory.
On the other side, Jordi Alba was also absent due to injury along with Messi. Miami coach Gerardo Martino implied that the Argentinian’s return to full fitness was prime priority.
“It was not prudent for him to play. We couldn’t even consider playing him for a few minutes because we would be taking risks,” he said.
