The San Siro team breathe a sigh of relief as they had to work hard

Inter Milan progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League after a scintillating 3-3 draw with Benfica on Wednesday night, as the 2-0 win in the first leg was enough to see them through.

The home team were the first to strike just like in the first match through Nicollo Barella with an excellent finish.

Not long after came the response from Benfica who equalized before half-time with with Fredrik Aursnes powerful header.

In the second half, however the Italian team looked the more persistent side and their efforts were soon rewarded with Laturo Martinez restoring the lead in the 65th minute as Joaqim Correa followed up soon after that to make it 3-1.

A late charge from the visitors, who had nothing to lose saw them bag two goals in quick succession to make the scoreboard an emphatic 3-3, but a total turnaround was never on the horizon.

Inter will face their arch-rivals Milan in the semi-finals in a mouth-watering clash, that promises high drama and dynamic football.
