Italian anti-doping prosecutors are seeking a maximum four-year suspension for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba following a positive test for testosterone, putting his career at risk. The World Cup winner chose not to enter into a plea bargain with Italy’s anti-doping agency, leading to the case proceeding to trial before the country’s anti-doping court.
At 30 years old, a four-year ban could potentially mark the end of Pogba’s playing days. While standard under the World Anti-Doping Code, the duration of the ban may be reduced if the player can demonstrate that the doping was unintentional, caused by contamination, or if they provide significant assistance to investigators.
Pogba’s positive test was revealed in September, originating from a screening conducted after Juventus’ match against Udinese on August 20 of the same year. Although the French international did not participate in the Serie A fixture, he was present on Juventus’ bench.

Despite requesting a counter-analysis for his positive doping test, the results reaffirmed the initial findings. Both samples indicated the presence of DHEA, a substance that aids in the production of various hormones, including testosterone.
