Toronto won against St. Louis 10-9 after 5 hits from Springer.

Toronto Blue Jays top St. Louis Cardinals 10-9 on the 1st day of the new MLB season at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.

George Springer was the best player with 5 hits as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drove in 3 runs for the victory on Thursday. Tyler O’Neill for 4th straight season on the first day of the new season by homering.

In his first match for the Cardinals, the catcher Willson Contreras got injured and departed after the 8th inning.

Springer finished 5 for 6 as he also recorded 5 singles in the 4/5 hit match in his career to go along with the 6th game for Houston at Oakland back in 2018.

George put a Jays record for hits in the first game and, along with Adley Rutschman, became the first pair with 5 hits each on opening day since at least 1901.

“It’s awesome. Obviously, you want to start off good,” Springer said. “It’s only one game. But, I’ll take all the hits I can get.”

Bo Bichette finished with 4 hits, and Matt Chapman with 3 for St. Louis.

Cardinals Jack Flaherty will play against Jays Kevin Gausman in the 2nd match of 3 game series on Saturday.
