The New York Jets and Tennessee Titans agreed to a rare footballer-for-footballer trade today, with the organization from the Big Apple sending PR Jermaine Johnson in an exchange for DT T’Vondre Sweat.
The exchange can’t be processed until the beginning of the league year next month.
That deal is the latest move of New York letting go of a defender after they already traded away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, both ex-1st-round draft selections in the past year.
Jermaine will be reunited with Tennessee manager Robert Saleh, who led the Jets when they picked him with the 26th overall selection 4 years ago.
The former New York pass rusher, coming off a down season (3 sacks), has 1 campaign remaining on his deal and is due to make a guaranteed almost 13.5 million dollars this year, the amount of his 5th-year option.
Jermaine was wanted by different teams in the past campaign before the trade deadline, but the franchise from the Big Apple chose to keep him until the end of the campaign.
T’Vondre, who was picked 38th overall 2 years ago, had 85 tackles and 3 sacks in 29 matches for Tennessee.
