Jon Jones, described as 1 of the most talented and great fighters of all time, has retired from the sport.
Dana White, who is the CEO of the fighting organization, shared the news that Jon Jones called him to tell him that he is retiring. UFC wanted to make a fight between Jon and interim champ Tom Aspinall, but now that’s off the cards. Now Tom is the new champ, and the fighting organization will look for his 1st opponent to defend his title.
“Jones called us to tell us that he will no longer fight,” shared White. “He is officially retired. Now we have a new undisputed champ, and his name is Aspinall.”
Jon Jones' career was one for the ages:
🏆 16 wins in UFC title fights
🏆 Youngest UFC champion of all time (23)
🏆 20 fight unbeaten streak
🏆 Two-division UFC champion
🏆 22 career wins in UFC, T-5th most all-time
🏆 Never been knocked down in his MMA career pic.twitter.com/Go80bOfncT— ESPN MMA (@espnmma) June 21, 2025
Jones lost only 1 fight in his career and won 28 phenomenal bouts. Also, he stepped up to become heavyweight champ against Ciryl Gane 2 years ago. Jon defended his title only once during that period as he was knocked out in the 3rd round by Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in the past fall.
The UFC CEO added that he feels sorry for Aspinall that they wasted his time and money, but promised to make it up to him.
