The fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder was promised to boxing fans this year, but recent events have significantly delayed the negotiations. The clash was originally scheduled for December in Saudi Arabia and then postponed for early next year.
But there was a change in the Saudi Arabian boxing landscape and things fell through. Eddie Hearn told Boxing Social he’s still doing everything he can to make it happen.
“I’ll give you one name – Deontay Wilder. I had good talks with Shelley Finkel yesterday, we want to do the fight with them. Obviously, we got an offer, we accepted the offer, and so did Deontay Wilder, and now, right now, we can’t move forward with it.”
Hearn – who has managed Joshua’s career since turning pro – then confirmed there were new offers on the table. “We have other proposals that have come in and we have other opportunities to do this in other places. I made it clear to Shelly last night that we wanted to fight. We will talk to AJ about a few offers that have come in. Hopefully we can go straight to that.”
The promoter said one location was from the Middle East, but declined to elaborate where exactly it is. “In the Middle East, yes. Without further comment. We need to review them.”.
