Jurgen Klopp has conveyed Liverpool’s uncertainty about the extent of Mohamed Salah’s injury following the forward’s substitution during Egypt’s match against Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday.
Salah left the field with an apparent hamstring injury just before half-time, raising concerns for Liverpool as they strive for success both domestically and in European competitions. Addressing the issue ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Sunday, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, Klopp remarked, “We don’t know anything. I spoke last night with him, and he needs further assessment. That’s what they are doing now, then we will know more.
“In that moment, it was a shock. I couldn’t see that it was high-intensity, and then going down, he just felt it. We all know how rarely Mo needs to go off, so it was definitely something.”
Klopp also left open the possibility of Liverpool sending medical personnel to the Ivory Coast to collaborate with Salah, stating, “We will see. It depends on the diagnosis. There will be an ultrasound and an MRI, then we will know what it is. But it’s too early.”
