Patrick Kane emerged as the hero, securing a 4-3 overtime win for the Detroit Red Wings over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
Contributing to Detroit’s victory, Lucas Raymond netted two goals, while Moritz Seider notched a goal and an assist. Kane himself played a pivotal role with two assists.
Columbus saw Zach Werenski finding the back of the net and assisting on goals by Alexandre Texier and Kirill Marchenko. Trailing 3-2 late in the game, Detroit pulled their goalie, James Reimer, and with just 12.6 seconds remaining in regulation, Raymond capitalized on a rebound, deflecting the puck off Columbus defenseman Damon Severson to equalize the score at 3-3.
Earlier in the third period, Marchenko broke the deadlock with a power-play goal, propelling Columbus to a temporary lead. Despite falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Red Wings swiftly leveled the score with two goals in quick succession during the second period.
Raymond capitalized on a power play to bring Detroit within one, before Seider’s point shot, redirected off Columbus defenseman Erik Gudbranson’s skate, drew them level.
Columbus dominated the opening period, seizing a 2-0 lead despite Detroit’s power-play opportunities. Werenski capitalized on a turnover to score the first goal, followed by Texier’s breakaway strike shortly after a successful penalty kill. Reimer turned away 32 shots to preserve Detroit’s victory, while Columbus goaltender Daniil Tarasov made 23 saves.
