The Brazilian declined his first offer, but now Chimaev says he is ready to fight in the heavyweight

Khamzat Chimaev is aiming at Alex Pereira once again, offering to face the Brazilian star at heavyweight after initially being turned down.

Pereira recaptured his UFC light heavyweight title on Saturday at UFC 320, knocking out Magomed Ankalaev in just 80 seconds in the main event. Soon after the emphatic win, Chimaev called him out to settle what he described as unfinished “business” between them.

However, Pereira was quick to dismiss the challenge. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, he said his focus was now on moving up to heavyweight.
“First, thanks for congratulating me, but all I want is a superfight,” Pereira said. “I want to fight at heavyweight. But all I can say is thank you.”

“Poatan” later clarified that he wasn’t targeting the winner of the upcoming heavyweight title fight between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane. Instead, he expressed his desire to fight Jon Jones, even paying tribute to the former champion’s late brother, Arthur Jones, who recently passed away at age 39.

Despite Pereira’s stance, Chimaev hasn’t given up hope for the matchup. The undefeated middleweight champion took to social media to offer to fight Pereira in the heavyweight division, confident it would be one of the biggest fights in UFC history. “I’m ready to fight you in the heavyweight [division], you won’t find a super fight bigger than our fight. No chama, this is SMASH EVERYBODY,” Chimaev wrote.

Chimaev recently grabbed the UFC middleweight title after dominating Dricus Du Plessis by unanimous decision at UFC 319 in August.
