Klay Thompson is optimistic and excited about his move to the Dallas Mavericks, describing it as a “fresh start” after a challenging end to his career with the Golden State Warriors.
Thompson, who spent 13 years with the Warriors, was instrumental in their success, helping them reach six NBA finals between 2015 and 2022 and securing four championships. However, the five-time All-Star faced significant setbacks due to injuries, including knee and Achilles issues, which kept him off the court for almost two years between 2019 and 2021.

Despite his and teammate Stephen Curry’s efforts to secure a contract extension with the Warriors, an agreement couldn’t be reached, leading Thompson to seek new opportunities with the Mavericks. His contract with Golden State was set to expire in June, prompting the move to Dallas.
“Coming here is just such a fresh start,” Thompson stated. “Feeling just wanted again, like I bring great value… It just gets me excited to go out there and even work out after this press conference and get shots up.”
Reflecting on his final season with the Warriors, Thompson acknowledged that it was “tough” and not “as joyful as it was in the past,” hinting at the difficulties he faced both on and off the court.
