Mavericks star Kyrie Irving will be absent from the upcoming game in Memphis as he returns to Dallas for an assessment of a right heel injury.
The injury occurred during Dallas’ 125-112 victory over Portland on Friday night, where Irving bruised his heel. The Mavericks are scheduled to face the Grizzlies on Monday night in Memphis, followed by a back-to-back game at home on Tuesday against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The incident leading to Irving’s injury unfolded with just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter against the Trail Blazers. Irving was fouled under the basket by center Duop Reath, causing him to fall to the floor. Unfortunately, teammate Dwight Powell inadvertently stepped on Irving’s foot, and the guard remained down for several minutes.
Irving has been contending with a left foot injury that already led to him missing four games, with two of those being on the second night of back-to-backs.
In terms of scoring, Irving ranks second for the Mavericks, trailing fellow All-Star Luka Doncic. The 31-year-old guard maintains an average of 23 points per game. Meanwhile, Doncic stands as the NBA’s second-highest scorer at 31.9 points per game, consistently achieving 30 or more points in his last six games.
