The game didn’t get in LAFC way from the start as AlajuaLense were reworded a penalty kick as early as the 8th minuted after video review deemed Giorgio Chiellini’s play a handball. Chiellini was given a yellow card for handing the ball and Giancarlo Gonzalez was precise from the spot.
The Los Angeles team kept on the pressure and forced visiting goalkeeper Leonel Moreira to make vital saves.
However, in the 51st minute the BMO stadium was shocked when Aaron Sanchez put the ball beyond goalkeeper John McCarthy and doubled AlajueLense’s lead. The Costa Rica team needed only one more goal to send the tie into extra time.
LAFC finally materialized their advantes in the 83rd minute, when capitan Carlos Vela dribbled his way into the penalty area and placed the ball into the back of the net to end all AlajueLense hopes.
