Dylan Larkin sealed the Detroit Red Wings’ 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers with a power-play goal just 1:09 into overtime on Wednesday night, putting an end to their 10-game losing streak in the head-to-head series.
Prior to Larkin’s heroics, Michael Rasmussen and Robby Fabbri contributed with goals in regulation for the Red Wings, who have been on a hot streak with a 6-0-1 record in their last seven games. Goaltender Alex Lyon, facing his former team, made a stellar 32 saves to secure the win.
For the Panthers, Sam Reinhart and Gustav Forsling found the back of the net, but it wasn’t enough to break their season-high three-game losing streak (0-1-2). Sergei Bobrovsky, in the Panthers’ net, made 26 saves.
Lyon, who received a video tribute in his first game back in Sunrise since leaving the Panthers in free agency, played a crucial role in the Panthers’ success last year. He started every game during an eight-game winning streak, which not only secured a playoff spot but also propelled the team to the Stanley Cup Final.
