Six runs in the 9th inning was enough to sink Los Angeles' hopes

The San Francisco Giants came out on top against the Los Angeles Giants 8-3 on Monday night.

It was a tight match up until the 9th inning, when a late six-run rally from the Giants gave Los Angeles their 7th consecutive loss, a season worst run of games.

Mark Mathias had a two-run single in his debut, while Patrick Bailey had two RBIs, putting San Francisco in front.

Thairo Estrada and Blake Sabol added their name on the scoresheet with an RBI single off Aaron Loup in the ninth.

“We’ve come in after wins and (had) a celebration in the clubhouse, and it’s always got a little extra life, but today was a different level,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. “I think the players felt how good it can be when we string a bunch of hits together like we did there. Winning games late, it’s always fun.”

For the Angels Shohei Ohtani was once again the key player as he doubled, singled, scored a run and stole his 15th base of the season. Unfortunately not enough as Los Angeles took another hit in their ambition to qualify for the playoffs.

“You walk into that room, you’re going to see some down dudes, some down guys,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said. “They’re upset. I know the effort is there. We’re playing hard, playing to win. … To come up short this many times in a row in the position we’re in, it hurts. But I know what they’re going to do tomorrow.”
