The Detroit Lions will compete in a 2026 regular-campaign match in Munich, Germany, for the 1st time in the franchise’s history.
The match will be held at Allianz Arena and will mark the Lions’ 1st international game in the past 12 years.
However, Detroit’s opponent won’t be revealed until the entire National Football League schedule is revealed next month.
“We are very happy to be picked to play in Munich next campaign,” Detroit president and CEO Rod Wood shared. “As a franchise, we became very popular in Germany, and we can’t wait to play in front of our supporters there.”
Lions’ last international match was November 1st, 2015, vs. the Chiefs in London. A year before that, Detroit faced the Falcons also in London.
Detroit wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s mother, Miriam, hails from Cologne, and he is excited to return to the country, where he frequently visited as a young man.
Lions will try to reach the postseason after missing the playoffs for the 1st time since 2022 in the past campaign, despite being favorites to do it last year.
