Liverpool have completed the signing of German playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a club-record fee of 135 million euros, making him the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
The 22-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until at least 2030, following a successful medical at Liverpool’s training ground on Friday. The deal includes a guaranteed 110 million euros fee, with an additional 25 million euros in performance-based add-ons.

If all bonuses are activated, Wirtz’s transfer would surpass the British transfer record of 125 million euros that Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.
Wirtz arrives after a standout spell at Leverkusen, where he scored 57 goals in 197 appearances. He becomes Liverpool’s second major signing of the summer, following the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen.

Speaking after the announcement, Wirtz expressed his ambition to compete for major trophies with the Reds: “Last season they won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I’m really ambitious,” he said. “I wanted something completely new — to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League. I’m really looking forward to playing my first game.”
The German international added that advice from fellow players who had played in the Premier League helped him decide: “They told me it’s perfect for me — every pitch, every game. I can enjoy every minute.”
