It was a bitter night for Jurgen Klopp men as they would feel that there was more in this game after controversial VAR intervention ruled out a late equaliser.
Jarell Quansah stoppage time goal was cancelled after referee was called for VAR review for alleged handball from Alexis Mac Allister.
The hosts made a flying start as they were 2-0 up inside one hour and looking very strong.
Liverpool reduced the deficit after an unfortunate own goal from Cristian Casseres Jr. However, Franki Magri restored the two goal cushion in no time to give Toulouse a much needed comfort.
Substitute Diogo Jota scored a late goal to burst the game into life just before stoppage time. Then came the controversial moment, when Liverpool were denied an equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game.
