Liverpool, having already secured qualification, concluded their Europa League group stage with a defeat on Belgian soil against Union Saint-Gilloise.
In the 32nd minute, Jurgen Klopp’s youthful Reds fell behind as Mohamed Amoura scored by skillfully navigating around goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Jarell Quansah, the twenty-year-old centre-half, netted his first Liverpool goal with a powerful effort from inside the penalty area, leveling the score.
However, just before halftime, the hosts regained the lead with Cameron Puertas’ low strike, ultimately securing the victory. Puertas appeared to score again, but the goal was disallowed for handball after a video assistant referee check.
