Former Manchester United and Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he has constantly urged the Red Devils to sign Erling Haaland for just £4m from Molde in 2018, the team he managed at that time.
Solskjaer worked with the striker and was fully aware of his potential, but the Red Devils refused to sign him. Instead Haaland went to Red Bull Salzburg, before completing a move to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020 and then moving to Manchester last summer, but wearing the blue shirt.
The 22-year-old is currently one of the most prolific strikers in the world, netting a staggering 51 goals across all competitions this season, breaking record after record.
However, Solskjaer shared that the Norwegian superstar was very close to joining their bitter rivals Manchester United.
“I called United about six months before I took over and told them that I’d got this striker that we had but they didn’t listen.” the 50-year-old said.
“I asked for £4million for Haaland but they didn’t sign him.”
