The club has been proceeding an internal investigation on Greenwood after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against the 21-year-old of rape and assault back in February.
Greenwood has been suspended for the last 18 months and hasn’t been allowed to train with the team.
A source from the Sun has claimed that many of United’s players are willing to welcome him back and help his cause.
“All the players believe he deserves a second chance because he’s innocent in the eyes of the law.” it said.
“He didn’t have the opportunity to clear his name in court because the charges were dropped, so the players feel like he has been left in limbo.”
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the young striker, but he could potentially return to the squad as early as the summer.
