Minnesota Wild elimination from the playoffs by the Vegas Golden Knights in May was considered by many to be the final game of Marc-Andre Fleury’s legendary career.
After more than two decades in the NHL and over 1,000 games played, the 40-year-old goaltender did indeed announce his retirement following the 2024-25 season.
But fans in Pittsburgh will get to see him in black and gold one last time. The Penguins announced that Fleury has signed a professional tryout contract with the team, allowing him to take the ice again in a preseason matchup against Columbus.
Marc-Andre Fleury has signed a PTO with the Penguins, and will play a home preseason game on September 27.

Speaking to NHL.com, Fleury explained his decision and why it mattered to him.
“I don’t like to say that I’m retiring as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins,” Fleury said. “I don’t want to disrespect the Minnesota Wild. I played my last game with them, I signed my last contract with them. They did a lot for me.
“I wanted to go back where it all began. I see it as a wink to my past. I’ll wear the Penguins jersey one last time and I’ll see some old teammates and friends again. It’s a way to come full circle.”
