MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has undergone surgery on his right shoulder following a crash during the opening lap of the Indonesian Grand Prix, where he collided with Marco Bezzecchi.
The Spaniard’s latest injury will sideline him for at least the next two rounds in Australia and Malaysia, with growing uncertainty over whether he will race again before the end of the season.

Marquez, who has already secured his and Ducati’s main goals for the year, said he won’t rush his recovery. The decision comes as part of a more cautious approach after a series of setbacks that have plagued his career since 2019.
Yesterday’s operation marked the eighth on his right arm in just six years. His first surgery came in November 2019 to stabilize a shoulder prone to dislocation after falls. What followed were four separate operations on his humerus — the result of his infamous crash at Jerez in July 2020 — between that summer and June 2022.
Surgery done, everything went well. ✅

In 2023, Marquez endured two more procedures: one to repair a fractured metacarpal bone after a collision with Miguel Oliveira in Portugal, and another later in the year to relieve an arm pump issue. The most recent surgery, performed in Madrid, focused again on his right shoulder, specifically the scapula injured in Mandalika.
