“I think the things that he said along the way about how he feels here, how he feels appreciated, how he feels accepted and allowed to be himself — those are the things that he said kind of consistently,” the general manager said Tuesday, a day after meeting with Kyrie. “That gives me the optimism that he wants to be here.”
Irving joined Mavericks this January when they traded for him with Brooklyn Nets. Kyrie can sign a 5-year contract with Mavs and be paid a little over $270 million for that period.
The other option for Irving will be to join a new team as a free agent, get a 4-year deal, and receive a little over $270 million.
