Max Verstappen is set for a new challenge this weekend as he makes his GT3 race debut in the Nürburgring Endurance Series. The four-time Formula 1 world champion will line up in an Emil Frey Ferrari 296, sharing the car with Chris Lulham in Saturday’s four-hour race at the legendary Nordschleife.
This step comes just two weeks after Verstappen competed in a restricted Porsche Cayman GT4 in the same series to secure a special license required to race GT3 machinery at the “Green Hell.” Having now obtained that license, he will be chasing overall victory for the first time in what many see as a natural progression from his GT4 outing.
“It is my passion to do these kinds of GT3 races too — I can’t wait,” said the 27-year-old, fresh off his win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last weekend. “I’m passionate about racing, also outside of Formula 1. Every lap at the Nordschleife is a different kind of experience.
Here we go 💪 GT3 race debut at Nordschleife. Max will take on the Nordschleife again, now with a Ferrari 296 GT3, together with Chris Lulham. This during next round of the NLS, coming Saturday, September 27th.

“The atmosphere is also really good and there are a lot of endurance fans present. It’s my hobby to race in other categories than Formula 1. My dream is to eventually participate in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Nordschleife is at the top of my list of tracks I want to race on, as it’s extremely challenging and demanding, with its enormous length and tight historic layout.”
