Manchester City suffered their earliest Champions League knock out since 2013

Manchester City’s Champions League campaign ended in disappointment as Kylian Mbappe’s stunning hat-trick propelled Real Madrid to a dominant victory at the Bernabéu, securing their place in the last 16.

Trailing 3-2 from the first leg, Pep Guardiola’s side needed a strong response, but the tie was effectively over within four minutes when Mbappe coolly lobbed Ederson after a brilliant pass from Raul Asencio.

City’s night went from bad to worse as John Stones limped off injured, further hampering their defensive stability. Mbappe doubled his tally in the 33rd minute, showcasing dazzling footwork to beat Joško Gvardiol before slotting past Ederson.

Just after the hour mark, Mbappe completed his hat-trick with a precise low finish, sealing a 4-1 aggregate victory for the defending champions. Erling Haaland, only fit enough for the bench, was unable to influence the game as City struggled to create chances.

City grabbed a late consolation goal when Nico Gonzalez turned in his first for the club after an Omar Marmoush free-kick hit the bar, but it was nowhere near enough.
